8. Why Have Why?

Did you know that I’m officially the 57,348th person to teach people how to make money online?

I’m not even one of the first 10!

That means there are thousands upon thousands of people before me that you could learn this stuff from and yet here you are reading our handbook.

Why is that?

Well, there could be a number of reasons.

  1. I’m the only one you came across
  2. I’m the only good-looking one that you came across
  3. I’m the tallest one that you came across
  4. You resonated with my Why

In almost every industry there are going to be multiple players. It’s just a fact of life.

There is absolutely no reason to look for an audience that isn’t being catered to yet because there is just too much of a chance of striking out.

So instead, people find audiences that are a decent size, are being catered to, and spend money.

However, when you do that, it means you’re going up against a lot of different people. Maybe not directly, but within the mental space of your audience, there is only so much room to rent out.

So you need a way to differentiate yourself. There are a number of ways to do that:

  1. Price
  2. Features
  3. Design
  4. Purpose

Almost everyone figures they need to compete on the first 3 and so they completely ignore the 4th.

Let me rephrase that.

Almost everyone is aware of the first three but don’t really understand that it’s the fourth one that will separate them from the rest.

Your purpose, your Why, is what is going to resonate with your audience.

It’s an emotional message that pulls your audience closer to you. It’s why they will relate to you and choose you over the competition.

When you have a strong Why, there is no competition because nobody else can use the same Why.

They may try, but because they won’t truly believe in it, it’s never going to be theirs.

(And here’s your biggest secret. You know that thing called a niche that all of the business gurus tell you to find? Well guess what? Your niche is your audience and your audience is the niche.)

It Is Not Optional

You might be saying “but Scrivs, I just want to create a simple blog, I don’t really need a Why” and I can understand that. But nothing you learn here in this handbook is about just creating something really small.

This is about creating something bigger than yourself. Something that will last for as long as you want it to and for that to happen you need a Why.

Back in the days having a Why was optional but because there are so many brands vying for attention, the Why is no longer optional.

If you want to build a successful Pocket Business then not having a Why isn’t an option.

The Right Person

As you’ll learn later, the people in your Tribe aren’t random people. They are the Right People.

Your Why directly targets those people and nobody else.

When people talk about niching down they usually mean find a very specific topic. When I talk about niching down I’m talking about finding a very specific person.

If you want to target everybody, it won’t work. You need to target a very specific person.

The right person. Your Hero.

The Why allows you to connect to the right person without having to do any hard selling.

If you notice when it comes to selling anything Odd Noodle related, we don’t do crazy selling tactics. We don’t make people feel bad that they are missing out. We don’t make people feel like they need to take out a loan to make this happen.

How many people would try to package this whole handbook into a PDF and sell it for $17? Instead, we listen to our Why and for us, getting all of this out for free makes perfect sense because it aligns with our North Star.

Those who know they want to be here simply know. It has nothing to do with us talking about the money that we make.

It all comes down to the actions that we take that relate to our Why.

If you truly believe that you deserve the opportunity to create the lifestyle that you want (your Transformation) and you believe that we’re going to do everything in our power to help make that happen for you (your Guide), then this is going to be the place.

But why bother going through all of that trouble when I could just do limited-time sales and pimp out my revenue all of the time? There are people that do that and make way more than me.

The problem is that rarely are those people building a Tribe of people that love their work. Instead, they are building an audience of people that don’t feel anything (or worse they feel negative) towards the work the person is doing.

If I tell you that I’m going to hold a conference for Odd Noodle Members, I want you to be excited because you’re excited about everything that I do.

You’re excited because we believe in the same thing.

You’re excited because you know you’re going to meet others that believe in the same thing.

You’re excited because you found a group of people that share something in common with you.

All of this might sound crazy, but this is what a powerful Why can do for you.

Do you know how many people have bought from us and continue to buy from us without even reading the sales pages? I can’t tell you how often people tell me that they should just give me their bank card since this is where all of their money goes.

It’s because our Why aligns with them.

Remember this?

  1. Get them to notice you
  2. Get them to pay attention to you
  3. Get them to trust you
  4. Convert that trust into money

When people believe in your Why and your actions continue to reinforce that Why, then achieving all of those things above happens on its own.

Your Why is going to help you connect with something bigger than you and it gets people to buy into what you’re offering.

So how do you find it?

Let’s find out.
